L'Institut Comte de Rius is a reference in Catalonia and belongs to the State Network of Centres of Excellence in Vocational Training of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training the Resolution of 24 November 2023 for the Chemistry family and Integrated Vocational Training Centre since 2024.
With a track record of almost 100 years in the training of chemistry professionals in the fields of plant operator and laboratory analyst. Currently, the intermediate level cycles of Laboratory Operations and Chemical Plant and the higher level cycles of Analysis and Quality Control Laboratory and Industrial Chemistry are taught, from which more than 600 students benefit each year.
The Institut Comte de Rius offers cycles in the professional families of: Mechanical Manufacturing, Electricity and Electronics, Transport and Vehicle Maintenance, Building and Civil Works, in addition to the Chemistry family.
All cycles can be taken in intensive dual mode. In these dual projects, companies in the industrial sector and the Institute collaborate closely in the training of students who will end up with 1000 hours of practical training in companies, a factor that favors more than 70% of students to join the world of work 6 months after finishing their training.

Innovation
l'Institut Comte de Rius has opted for the incorporation of immersive technologies in chemical vocational training.
The centre has developed training scenarios based on simulation, digital twins and safe to fail environments, where students can practice complex procedures, train risk prevention, improve decision-making and repeat operations without physical, material or environmental risk.
Immersive technology ceases to be a demonstrative tool and becomes a learning methodology aimed at professional competence, job placement and responding to the real needs of the industry.
Its long history, and the results of the collaboration and integration of dual students in companies, demonstrate in the acquisition of skills and values that students must be worked on to achieve the best professionals for industry 4.0 as the industry of the future is called.
It is a benchmark model in Spain in digitising and connecting to the cloud all the equipment, reagents and material of the laboratories, to have control of the integrated operation of the laboratories, through the project, awarded and cloned by many Spanish vocational training centres: El Laboratorio por las Nubes.
Projects and awards
L'Institut Comte de Rius has also been awarded at the FP Biz Day (officially called the Catalonia FP Biz Day Awards), in which the Generalitat de Catlaunya recognises good practices in Dual Vocational Training for collaboration between centres and companies.
