The Institute of Chemistry and Biotechnology of Barcelona, IQBB, is a public vocational training centre with more than 30 years of experience in the field of chemistry and the environment. It began its journey in 1994 with the studies of Chemical Operator, Laboratory and Environmental Analyst, and has evolved to become a reference institute focused on chemistry, biotechnology, health and environmental sustainability.
Its main objective is to promote experiential learning. They work from practice in the laboratories, the development of projects and the resolution of real situations, so that students acquire technical knowledge, professional confidence and responsiveness from day one.
They are committed to innovation, sustainability and connection with the productive, scientific and social environment. This vision allows them to train professionals prepared to face the current and future challenges of strategic sectors such as the chemical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, health and environmental industries.

Innovation and projects
At IQBB we are constantly working to incorporate tools, methodologies and resources that favour the understanding of technical processes and the acquisition of the necessary professional skills for our students.
For this reason, we are committed to integrating sustainability criteria, active methodologies and digital technology applied to learning in our classrooms. At the same time, the centre participates in innovation projects linked to vocational training, as well as in social and informative initiatives connected to the neighbourhood, the city and the productive environment.

PROJECT
Virtual bioreactor
With this project, the IQBB reinforces its commitment to innovative, applied professional training connected to the current challenges of the chemical, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, health and environmental industries.
The development of the virtual bioreactor is one of the most outstanding projects: a digital tool designed to improve the training of students and facilitate the understanding of the processes that take place in bioreactors for industrial use. This resource allows simulating, visualizing and analyzing situations typical of biotechnological production, reinforcing the learning of complex concepts in a more accessible, practical and interactive way.
The use of the virtual bioreactor is complemented by direct work with experimental bioreactors in the classroom. This combination of digital simulation and laboratory practice allows students to approach complex systems before joining companies, improving their technical preparation, their autonomy and their opportunities for job placement.
